Question: Credit Specialist may I get your advice? After years of not caring about my credit, I finally came to the point that I wanted to take responsiblity for it. I had a bankrupcy ch 7 in 2005. I started repairing it one year ago. I finally got my student loans out of default. Have gone from poor credit to no credit.I used to be turned down for have bad credit, now it is because I have no credit history. How can I estatablish a bigger loan, if I can not get smaller ones?
Answer: What I did after my bankruptcy was get a Orchard bank credit card with a $300.00 limit and used it for everyday purchases like gas and food, was careful never to go over 30% of my credit limit in any given month and paid it off in full before the due date. This established a pay history and avoided interest charges. After about 10-12 months of this I got a much better card and did the same thing with it. I did not cancel my Orchard card and continued to use it also the same way. After about another 10-months I had re-established my credit to the point that I was approved for a new car through Ford with no money down and got a 3.9% rate. After another 12-months, I bought a home with no money down, 100% financing and 6.5% fixed rate. Now 3-years later I have better credit then I did before my bankruptcy.
