Question: When u marry someone with bad credit does that mean that your credit score will be affected?Me and my boyfriend of 4 years are thinking about getting married and lets just say he wasnt always as responsible with his credit as he just recently has started being. His credit is horrible. If we get married how is this going to affect me, because my credit score is close to perfect. I've worked so hard to have such good credit and I dont want to jeopardize it. On the other side I love my boyfriend obviously and if i can have both...him as a husband and good credit that is what i want.
Answer: It will not affect your score at all.The only way you would be affected is if you two get loans jointly after your married, and even then it will not affect your score only the interest rate you two will be charged. -Once married your credit and his credit reposrts will come up any time you try to get credit, a house, etc. Why dont you help him improve his credit before marrying, but I dont think you should leave him because of it... -It won't hurt your score, but if you ever apply for a loan together they will look at both of your scores. If you apply for a loan by yourself you will have a better chance of being accepted. -I have the same question because I too have almost perfect credit, and my boyfriend, who I will marry in the not too far future has pretty bad credit. My boyfriend told me that he has looked into it and we will each keep our own credit history- my credit will not become bad but his won't become good. He did say that when we purchase things together the best thing to do is to put his name first and have me cosign since I have the good credit. There is a resolved question from Julie B, with best answer by "studly" which basically says the same thing my boyfriend said. You might want to look at that question, studly seems to know what he's talking about and it matches what my boyfriend found out.
